Hello! Today we visited Cakeology in Winnipeg. First we took a long bus ride there. Then we got to see how they decorate there cakes. Most of the decorations is fondant for the cakes. They had many different types of cupcakes also and cookies and cake pops just not on a stick. Jenn and I tried the red velvet cake pops. They were super amazing but really sweet. They showed us fondant roses and what kind of cakes that they make. I thought it was really cool. Some of the flavors of cupcakes were including: Red Velvet, Banana Split, Rasberry, Mint Chocolate and many more. I wish I would've got to try everything cause it looked just so good but I know i would get a sugar high and gain weight :P . After we went to a poutine place that had the potatoes we saw at the Potato store. I thought that it was pretty neat. ~Heather Penner

Today we traveled to Winnipeg to visit the Cake-ology. We got there and I was surprised at how small it was it felt like it was the size of a shoe box but I guess you got to start somewhere. They were working on a wedding cake and a baby shower cupcakes. They even make gluten-free cupcakes and squares, they make cake pops which they like to call "Cakettes" I bought half a dozen to share with my friends. We watched a woman pipe on icing for the wedding cake and another make Imperial cookies which are shortbread cookies sandwhiched together with some sort of preserves with icing on top apparently its big in Britain. For lunch our chefs treated us to Smokes poutine I had the bacon poutine and it was yummy!! That was a really great time eating food and spending it in a different part of Winnipeg. I really enjoyed it!

The bake shop was really small and cramped but it was nice and the cakes they had on display were really pretty and the cupcakes looked really, really good. they even had gluten free cupcakes and cakes. There were a few books full of pictures of different cakes that they had made in the past and the looked really neat. after cake-ology, we went to smokes poutine and I goy a pulled-pork poutine. I also happened to see my aunt and uncle walking down the sidewalk. last we went to a hat shop and looked around there for a few minutes. it was a really fun trip.

Who doesn't love cakes? I may not like to eat them, but I do love seeing the creativity you can accomplish if you have enough patience and imagination. That's exactly what Pam Kirkpatrick the creative director for Cake-Ology has done. After years of making cakes for family and friends at home, her dreams of opening a shop finally came true. In 2009 she purchased a studio bakery in the heart of the historic exchange district in Winnipeg. She started with just her and her husband at first, but now she has 6 employees. This shop makes cupcakes, cookies, cakettes, various sweets and treats,... but they specialize in creating custom cakes for weddings and all kinds of occasions. Everything is made from scratch and they use local food suppliers for their ingredients. Their cakes are available in banana, carrot, chocolate, lemon, marble, red velvet, spice, and vanilla flavours. The most popular flavour is the red velvet. Different fillings are used between the layers of cakes and are all butter cream based, but they do use some fruit preserves as well. This studio bakery is very small, but very unique in design, with a beautiful display of the many products they sell. They even sell some gluten free products made with rice flour. A fondant icing is used for their products which allows them to produce a smooth, clean, perfect finish. They have won the "Prettiest Cakes Award" in 2012 and you can look them up online. This was a great opportunity for the class to see what the experience of owning your own little bake shop would be like. Thanks Pam for allowing us to stop in and see your shop!
It was fun going to Winnipeg to go see Cakeology. If you don’t know what cakeology is it’s a very small building that four ladies run they make cakes, cookies, cupcakes and some other to. I thought that was cool to here that they could basically make any design that you can think of. I thought that was smart that they had a display case full of different stuff and I also thought that was smart that they put up pictures of different designs for the cakes. I personally liked the poker game cake I liked the little chips they made on it I thought that was interesting. After all that we went to a place called Smokes poutine. That was funny to the girls freak out when a wasp flew bye there head it was funny. I kind of wandered what was going to happen when this guy came and started to talk to the girls. Then when everyone finished eating we went to a place called well now that I think of it I don’t know what is was called some of us just called the hat shop we just called it that because they had a lot of hates and belts. Then we got on the bus and went home about 3 o’clock this has been another post from jaydson bye.
