Hello! Today we got a hands on experience in Altona! It was a lot of fun. We got to chop up the carrots and it was super fun. It took defiantly a lot of practice just to hold the knife right. After you got the feeling you can go at your own pace. I thought I was pretty good for the first time. We learned a few different types of cuts for carrots all of which I can't spell cause they are in French. It was a super fun experience and I can't wait till our kitchen is up and running! My finger nails are now orange thanks to cutting carrots. ~Heather Penner
Todays trip to W.C. Miller was probably my favorite trip so far because we finally got to actually do something. the knife skills thing was good and their kitchen is really nice. The school is actually quite a bit bigger than I expected, but I'm still really excited about our kitchen.
Today we visited the culinary in Altona. We got to a hands on experience with cutting carrots. We learned how to hold a knife properly and how to cut without chopping our fingers off. We learned different techniques. We also got to eat some food that the culinary had prepared for lunch! I got to try my friends Pumpkin pie! It was chewy because she added too much water to the dough. We are going back tomorrow. I cant wait to spend some time cooking with my friends there!

Hello everyone! Today in Culinary Arts we went to W.C Miller Collegiate in Altona and we got some hands on working in the kitchen. When we got there we had to put on our chef uniform it was really cool. We started to get the hang on our knife skills, we got to cut some carrots into different kinds of ways it was quiet fascinating :) . After our knife skills we went and had our lunch, but we got to have the food they had made for the day like what the students had made, the food was really good, they had steamed vegetables and double baked potato's and some kind of soup, the food was amazing. It was fascinating too see and watch them all cook and them call their teacher a chef I just really find it cool :) it really feels like your in a real restaurant like with pro's. I had a lot of fun it was way better then going to a dairy farm.
Today we went to see the culinary class at W. C. Miller in Altona. We met with the students and Chef Kip and were given the opportunity to learn the proper skills on holding and using a knife. Learning the proper skills will help to eliminate any possible accidents from occurring, although accidents do still sometimes happen, the students need to know the correct way to hold a knife and where to place their hands. While we did our knife skills, the Miller students prepared the lunch for the day for their school. On the menu was, 2 kinds of soups, rice, stir fry, pork strips, salads, sandwiches and a dessert. Once they were done serving they invited us to have lunch with them. It was very generous of them to do that, and it was really good. Tomorrow,... we go back to help prepare lunch with them on their busiest lunch day of the week! Now that all the students knife skills were achieved they can help. Looking forward to helping out and finally working in a kitchen. Thanks Chef Kip and class for the hospitality and wonderful lunch!
