  1. Hello! Today we visited Pratt's Wholesale! We first got to see the restaurant which was amazing! We got drinks which just were delicious. We walked around and saw all the storage where the food goes before it's shipped to the stores. I saw many brands I had seen before but I didn't know they came in such big boxes. We went into i think 3 different freezers. Was I glad I had a jacket! Each freezer had a different feeling. One was more moist or humid. All the freezers are all below zero. Then upstairs they had products where you could buy one and not 100. They had so many items. There square footage was 220,000 feet. CRAZY! And that's not even big as the ones in New York or Los Angles. After our tour we got to eat food! We got to make our own wraps which were so amazing! They did not taste as good as the ones we make at home that's for sure. They made us home made fries I think and soup. I didn't get to try the soup cause I was just to stuffed. They also had a cappuccino machine which I just loved. mMmmmmm coffee! Over all I had an amazing day and it wasn't at all what I thought it was going to be! I'm just happy it wasn't a farm. ~Heather Penner

  2. Hey! Today we went to Pratt's wholesaler. When we got there the first thing we did was got to see the restaurant and have drinks and let me tell you the restaurant was gorgeous :) . we had a really cool tour. we got to go into like warehouse freezes it was awesome but it was also FREEZING :) we walked into at least 3 different freezers. we also got to walk into their warehouse fridges, i never knew it was that fun to walk in fridges haha. We saw a lot of food more than i could ever imagine and its CRAZY how many different food and drink brands we saw today that are in this world. Their building is really huge, the square footage of it was about 220,000 feet. The best thing i saw was their forklifts it so cool how the beep when they drive its actually really busy in the warehouse you really have to watch out where you walk. But the best part of the day was that once we got back from our tour in the warehouse we got to make our very own wraps :) and the chef's there had made home made fries witch were really really good and some soup. they also had a cappuccino machine and all sorts of really cool juices's and everything, which i tried one and it was the BEST juice i have ever had . Anyways that was our day in Culinary Arts today and it was an amazing tour and day i hope i get to go back to Pratt's restaurant soon. I'am so happy that it was something different then a farm, at least this tour didn't smell lol

  6. Pratt's will be one of our main suppliers in Culinary class. They provide approximately 7,000 different food service items and 16,000 food service retail store supplies in MB. Which means they not only sell fresh/frozen items they sell house ware supplies and equipment for your business as well. About 14 million dollars worth of product is stored at this warehouse. 25,000 products per day are sold and 25,000 products are shipped back in per day. They have 300,000 square feet of property to store everything. Pratt's in Canada has warehouses in Regina, and Calgary too. They supply coast to coast, as well as to NWT, and Nunavut. Their are 6 different departments in the warehouse and each have there own controlled temperatures. Not all food is stored at the same temperatures so they stock products accordingly to their required holding temperatures in 4 long large freezers and 4 large coolers. The house wares and equipment department has its own designated isle that has 1.5 million dollars worth of merchandise alone. Each isle is assigned a specific row number, selection number and category letter. They are filled floor to ceiling with stock. So #72-462B means that it is in isle and row #72, section #462 and in category B. Nothing is named,... just numbered. So if they were looking for a case or Wonder bars to pick up they would look for the code number on the isle not the actual name. The invoice will show the number with a short description for the customer. All this is hand picked and loaded by a fork lift into the loading dock area. This is called the staging area. It is then counted, labeled and loaded onto the proper delivery truck for shipment. Some trucks have both a cooler and a freezer on board for quicker transport. Eventually they want to go automated with orders to help eliminate human error and speed up the process. This warehouse is open 24 hours a day and is a family run business that started 103 years ago. Wow! They employ about 500 staff per day. What was most interesting to me was the "test" kitchen called Pratt's Bistro 101". It can demonstrate the use and efficiency of the equipment they sell and how well the food product performs and tastes. After our tour we got to make our own wraps. The chef also provided parmesan french fries, chicken wild rice soup, salad and an assortment of drinks. Very tasty food and very nice establishment! I would definitely go back to dine again. Thank you Jim, Grant and Chef Ferdinand for the tour and hospitality!
